AUBURN, Maine — Emergency officials responded Wednesday morning to a house fire on Paul Street in Auburn.

Auburn police and fire officials arrived at the scene shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a structure fire with fire in the garage, the Auburn Fire Department said in a news release.

Auburn fire units were on the scene within four minutes of receiving the call and reported seeing heavy fire in the 1.5-story wood frame home with an attached garage, the release stated.

Within 45 minutes of the initial report, crews were able to get the fire under control.

"At the time of the fire, both occupants and animals were able to get out of the home without injury," the release said.

The fire department said the American Red Cross is working with the home's occupants.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Central Maine Power, the Auburn Police Department, Auburn Public Works, Auburn Water/Sewer, the Lewiston Fire Department, and the New Gloucester Fire Department assisted.
