The New England Patriots and New England Revolution are teaming up to host a dual football and soccer clinic as part of the Lewiston-Auburn Community Day celebrations.
The clinic is open to kids ages 7 to 14 and will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Franklin Pasture Sports Complex at Lewiston High School.
The event was organized in an effort to support healing from the tragedy that touched the community on Oct. 25, when a lone gunman opened fire at Just-In-Time Recreation and Schemengees Bar and Grille in Lewiston, killing 18 people and injuring more than a dozen others.
"This will be a great day for all of us to celebrate community pride," the Lewiston Recreation Department said Tuesday in a post about the event on social media.
In addition to the sports clinic, other features of the day's events include food trucks, family activities, and photo opportunities. There will also be a special presentation, the recreation department teased, with more information to be shared leading up to that Sunday.
"That these types of opportunities are measures that continue to lift up Lewiston and Auburn. Community is not only something that exists. Community thrives when we come together, share in beautiful moments, comfort each other, and have those spaces we share to reminisce about in the future," Jake Langlais, superintendent of Lewiston Public Schools, shared in an email with NEWS CENTER Maine. "When organizations like the Patriots and the Revolution take the time to come to our community to hold such great events it lifts us all up, brings us all closer, and lets us fill painful details with new joyful ones."
There is no registration required to attend the events, but kids who wish to participate in the sporting clinic are required to register beforehand. Space is limited.
