MINOT, Maine — Sixteen children were injured in a school bus crash in Minot Tuesday morning.
None of the injuries were serious, the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office told NEWS CENTER Maine.
It happened shortly after 8 a.m. as the bus was transporting Minot Consolidated School students to school, RSU 16 Superintendent Amy Hediger said in a social media post.
The sheriff's office said the bus apparently went onto the soft shoulder off the right side of the road and into a ditch before hitting a culvert about a half-mile from the school.
Emergency officials responded to the crash scene to assess and care for the students, and their families were contacted by the school district, the superintendent stated.
"School staff were present to offer support as the students were safely transported back to school," Hediger said. "United Ambulance is continuing to monitor the children at school, ensuring that all children receive the care and attention they need."
Minot Consolidated School serves students grades K-6.
