Lewiston man charged with assaulting police during Jan. 6 riot

The FBI arrested 64-year-old Andre Bonneau Wednesday. He is facing several felony and misdemeanor charges.

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — The FBI has arrested a man from Lewiston for his alleged assault of law enforcement officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, riots on the U.S. Capitol.

The bureau alleges 64-year-old Andre Bonneau was seen on police body-camera footage approaching a bike rack barricade separating officers from rioters on the West Front of Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia

Video footage appears to show Bonneau ignoring police orders to "get back" before turning his back to officers, grabbing the bike rack, and using his body weight to push it into officers, according to the release.

The bureau also alleges the video footage appears to show Bonneau struggling with officers over the bike rack, as he attempted to lift and remove the barricade from the police line.

He is also facing several misdemeanor charges, including knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.

Bonneau will make his initial court appearance in the District of Maine, but the press release did not say when that would happen.

According to the DOJ, more than 1,504 people have been charged since the Jan. 6 riots. More than 560 people have been charged with felony counts of assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
