Police investigating Lewiston shooting incident that injured one person

Lewiston police said a patrol officer reported hearing gunfire Monday afternoon in the area of Knox Street.

LEWISTON, Maine — One person was hospitalized after a shooting incident Monday afternoon in Lewiston.

According to a news release from the Lewiston Police Department, an on-duty patrol officer reported hearing gunfire in the area of 66 Knox St. Several armed suspects and an injured male who had been struck by gunfire reportedly confronted the officer. 

An off-duty officer nearby detained the suspects after they had fled the scene, Lewiston police said. 

The male who was injured was brought to Central Maine Medical Center and is in "stable condition," according to police.
