LEWISTON, Maine — As the Lewiston community searches for peace and healing, community members are taking it upon themselves to unite the city.

On Sunday, there was a free concert in Lewiston called "One Lewiston One Heart" to provide a welcoming space for community members to come together and "bring some harmony" back to Lewiston.

Josh Hughes, the event organizer, wrote: "Our main goal for this event is to provide emotional support and healing to both the Lewiston community and the broader community. We firmly believe that music has the ability to unite us, uplift our spirits, and bring about positive change."

Hughes said the concert scheduled six acts to perform from 3-8 p.m. Sunday.

"I feel like if we practice more love, practice more peace, practice more harmony and practice more togetherness—not saying it will totally annihilate atrocities, but it will give us an opportunity to see these kinds of things happening before they actually occur," Hughes said.

Hughes said he wants to be there every step of the way for his community as it begins the healing process.

"I feel like something like this needs to take place on a consistent basis just so we don't lose a sense of community," Hughes said.
