Lewiston's newest mural brings a burst of color to Chestnut Street

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline told NEWS CENTER Maine that the mural is part of an "arts renaissance" the city has been undergoing.

LEWISTON, Maine — A new mural in Lewiston has just been completed, and it's bringing a bright burst of color to Chestnut Street.

The mural was created by Nathan Brown, a renowned muralist based out of Nashville who has created major works of art nationwide and internationally, according to his online portfolio.

Brown's portfolio also notes that he has partnered with brands that include Red Bull, Google, and Patagonia, among others.

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline told NEWS CENTER Maine that the mural is part of an "arts renaissance" the city has been undergoing in the past several years, and they recently established a public art committee.

"Art has become a focus for the city," Sheline said.

The city received a Choice Neighborhood Grant, which includes funding for public art.

The mural on Chestnut Street, as well as other murals and sculptures in the city, was funded by the grant in combination with donations from private business owners. Sheline said the art does not cost taxpayers any more money.
