State police release more than 3,000 pages of reports related to Lewiston mass shooting

The documents include investigative reports from state police and other law enforcement agencies who assisted in both the response and the investigation.

LEWISTON, Maine — Editor's note: Maine State Police said in an update Monday afternoon the link to the Lewiston reports is back online after it was deactivated on Friday due to "technical issues."

Maine State Police have released a comprehensive collection of documents related to the Lewiston mass shooting.

Robert Card opened fire at Just-In-Time Recreation and Schemengees Bar and Grille in Lewiston on Oct. 25, 2023, killing 18 people and injuring more than a dozen others. It was the deadliest shooting in Maine history.

At both shooting locations, Card held a delusional belief that people were talking about him behind his back. Two days later, the 40-year-old Army reservist was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The more than 3,000 pages of documents include investigative reports from state police and other law enforcement agencies who assisted in both the response and the investigation, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a release.

Documents from other entities involved in the situation have also been included in the latest collection of documents, Moss said. She added that records that have been designated confidential by Maine and federal statutes have been redacted.

Moss said state police would continue to add additional documents and information to the website as they become available.
