Lewiston High School continues with normal schedule after threat

Superintendent Jake Langlais said the suspect was identified to be from a location hundreds of miles away.

LEWISTON, Maine — Lewiston High School is continuing with classes Monday after school officials were made aware of threatening language directed at the school.

"We are reaching out to let you know that a screen shot with threatening language towards LHS has been reposted and brought to our attention," Superintendent Jake Langlais said in a social media post Sunday night. "We are working with law enforcement actively on this.  Thank you to all who have made us aware of the situation. We will provide updates."

In an update shortly before 5 a.m. Monday, Langlais said, "The individual responsible for the message that was threatening to LHS last night has been identified. Law enforcement has made contact and the situation has been taken care of."

At 7:16 a.m., Langlais said school would operate on a normal schedule Monday.

In a letter to the Lewiston community on Monday, Langlais said the suspect was identified to be from a location hundreds of miles away. He said the individual is 10 years old and located in the Midwest.

"We are not always at liberty to share information due to legal protections, ongoing investigations, and other factors but please know that safety is what we do first," Langlais said in the letter.
