LISBON, Maine — The firearm found in mass shooting suspect Robert Card's vehicle was a Ruger SFAR rifle, police confirmed Monday.
"Forensic and ballistic testing still needs to be conducted to confirm whether this gun was used in the crime at all," Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss told NEWS CENTER Maine.
On Ruger's website, the gun is described as "bigger and stronger where it needs to be and remains smaller and lighter than comparable .308-sized rifles."
Card, 40, of Bowdoin, is believed to have shot and killed 18 people and injured 14 Wednesday night at Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley, formerly Sparetime Recreation, and Schemengees Bar and Grille Restaurant. The bowling alley and the restaurant are about four miles apart.
During a press conference Saturday, Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck said three firearms were found during the search and discovery of Card's body: two on him and one in his vehicle, which was abandoned at a boat launch in Lisbon.
Officials have not specified the make or model of the the two guns that were found on Card when his body was located. NEWS CENTER Maine has reached out to officials to see if they're able to comment on that.
A representative from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives who spoke during Saturday's press conference said all three of the firearms were legally purchased by the suspect, at least one of them just days before the shootings.
