Crews spend several hours extinguishing farmhouse fire in Auburn

AUBURN, Maine — Crews from multiple towns spent several hours extinguishing a wood-frame farmhouse fire in Auburn on Monday.

It happened around 1 a.m. in the area of 1408 Riverside Dr., according to a release from the Auburn Fire Department.

First responders arrived to find a fully-involved fire, and crews were directed to take defensive operations due to the entire structure being in flames, the release stated.

The two-story building was known to be vacant for some time, the fire department said. Nobody was injured in the fire.

The Auburn Fire Department received mutual aid from the Lewiston, Minot, Durham, Pownal, New Gloucester, and Turner fire departments, as well as Central Maine Power. Fire departments from Mechanic Falls and Minot provided station coverage for Auburn during the response, according to the release.

The Office of State Fire Marshal and the Auburn Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
