KENNEBUNK, Maine — An electrician suffered burns in a fire at a Kennebunk assisted living facility Thursday morning, according to fire officials.

The electrician was installing a new power line and outlet in a vacant room at Huntington Common around 9 a.m. when his drill apparently hit a live wire, sparking a fire that caused second- and third-degree burns to his hands, according to Kennebunk fire Chief Justin Cooper. The fire spread to the attic and firefighters quickly doused it, containing the damage to around the room, the chief said.

The electrician, who was not identified, was taken to Southern Maine Health Care Medical Center in Biddeford and released Thursday afternoon, according to Cooper.

The fire damaged several electrical lines to nearby units and contractors were working to restore power, fire officials said. Some residents of the facility near the site of the fire were taken to more distant parts while firefighters doused the flames.
