Missing man last seen in York found dead, police say

Jerry Allen was last seen around 11 a.m. Wednesday at the American Legion in York. Police said his body was discovered at about 2 p.m. Thursday.

YORK, Maine — A missing man who was last seen in York Wednesday afternoon has been found dead.

The Maine Warden Service and York Police Department were searching for 76-year-old Jerry Allen, who was last seen around 11 a.m. Wednesday at the American Legion in York, the warden service said in a social media post

Officials believed Allen left his home on foot sometime during the daylight hours Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from York police. Police said his vehicle and personal belongings were still at his home.

Police issued an update that Allen was found dead at about 2 p.m. Thursday. Information about where his body was located and the cause and manner of his death was not released.

The state medical examiner's office was notified and the investigation remains ongoing.

"Furthermore, the York Police Department wants to thank our citizens for calls and tips related to this case and we also would like to advise that there is NO THREAT to the public," York police said in the updated release.
