KENNEBUNK, Maine — Police are investigating after an individual died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Kennebunk service plaza Saturday afternoon.
At about 3:10 p.m., several calls were made to the Augusta Regional Communications Center regarding a gunshot fired in a restroom at the northbound Kennebunk service plaza off Interstate 95, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Maine State Police reportedly found a deceased individual. Moss said their death is considered a suicide, and officials will not be identifying the person.
The incident appears to be isolated, and there is no risk to the public, Moss said. An investigation is ongoing.
The service plaza was closed for a "considerable amount of time" due to the incident.
