WESTBROOK, Maine — The leader of veterinary diagnostics company IDEXX is stepping down from the management team permanently because of a spinal injury that left him paralyzed.
The board announced Thursday that Jay Mazelsky, who's been serving interim president and CEO, will take over those duties on a permanent basis. Lawrence Kingsley was appointed chairman.
Chairman and CEO Jonathan Ayers had taken a leave of absence following a bicycle crash on June 27.
He reported after the crash that he had limited arm and wrist movement, but no mobility or sensory perception in his legs, torso and fingers. He said he did not suffer any brain injury, and will continue working with IDEXX as a board member and senior adviser.
