SKOWHEGAN (NEWS CENTER Maine) — It’s the call heard around Somerset county Saturday.
Moose hunting season is still months away, but if you were in Skowhegan over the weekend, you might've thought there were hundreds of moose on the loose!
Hundreds of people gathered at the 2018 Skowhegan moose festival to try to break the Guinness world record for the largest moose call.
Saturday’s moose call needed at least 995 participants to break the world record. Organizers say they handed out 1,600 wristbands, and actually ran out.
Immediately following the moose call, the moose lottery is taking place for thousands hoping to be one of the lucky 2,500 people to score a moose hunting permit this year.
More than 54,000 people put their name in this year’s lottery for a moose hunting permit, including Mainers, and those 'from away.'
It’ll take Guinness at least three months to prove or disprove the success of Saturday’s moose call as being the world’s largest.
