Bowdoinham resident injured in home explosion

Officials say the explosion occurred when the homeowner tried to install a gas-powered appliance.

BOWDOINHAM, Maine — A homeowner in Bowdoinham was injured following an explosion at their house Thursday afternoon.

Investigators from the state fire marshal's office responded to a fire on 620 Ridge Rd. in Bowdoinham around 2 p.m., the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

"The fire occurred as a result of an explosion that occurred while the homeowner was attempting to install a gas appliance," the release stated.

The homeowner was injured during the explosion and was brought to a local hospital for treatment. No additional information was available about the status of the homeowner.

Responding fire departments included Bowdoinham, Richmond, Woolwich, Topsham, Bowdoin, Litchfield, Gardiner, and Dresden.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department and the Lisbon Ambulance Service also assisted.
