Wilson Hall in Bucksport served as a Methodist seminary after it was built in 1850-1851. It became a historic landmark in the town, as it's one of the first things you see when coming into downtown Bucksport from the water. For decades however, the historic building has been in shambles.
The town now owns the building, and will vote on it's future at town council meeting in January. The options are to demolish the building or look for a donor to invest in the building to make it operational. The town has been looking into the renovation plans for years, but has not had interest to justify spending the money, which would cost the town much more than just demolishing the building.
"Nobody has the will to necessarily tear it down, but nobody has the will to spend a lot of taxpayer money to refurbish it with no plan in place," said Bucksport Mayor David Keene.
One person making an effort to try and save the building is Emeric Spooner. Spooner is a Bucksport native. He started the "Save Wilson Hall" facebook page in an effort to try and get support for saving the building.
"They say Bucksport is rich and historic," said Spooner. "We're losing our heritage and nobody's stopping it," Spooner added.
The Bucksport Town Council will vote on the fate of the building in late January at their next town council meeting.
