(NEWS CENTER) -- On Monday the unhealthy levels of ozone will be confined to the Southwest Coastal Region of Maine. The unhealthy levels of ozone are expected to continue for Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday.

Early indications for Tuesday show the ozone levels would be unhealthy for the Southwest Coast, Mid-Coast and the High Elevations of Acadia National Park.

At elevated ozone levels, children and healthy adults who exert themselves can find trouble breathing, and individuals suffering from a respiratory disease such as asthma, bronchitis or COPD can experience reduced lung function and irritation as well. Some actions you can take to protect your health during periods of unhealthy air quality include:

-Adjusting your schedule to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon particularly (between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.) which is the hottest part of the day
-Cut down on exercise. If you must exercise, drink two to four glasses of cool, fluids each hour. A sports drink can replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat.
-Rest often in shady areas - at least every hour.

Maine Department of environmental protection also urges, sports coaches, elder care workers, nurses and others who are responsible for the welfare of people to keep an eye on the status of the air quality and you can do so on the Maine.gov website where they have an Air Quality Forecast. Or you can click here to go directly to the page.
