Hermon football making history

Hermon will face Nokomis at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon for the Class C North final.

HERMON (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- High school football may be coming to an end, but this week we have a match up of two very similar teams in Class C North.

Two programs that are less than ten years old, both winning playoff games for the first time in history.

The Nokomis Warriors and Hermon Hawks are getting ready to face off in a class C North final on Saturday.

In Hermon, the team that's only 8-years-old, with a second year head coach, already has the community behind them.

"They love their football here so it's been a lot of fun to kinda ride the wave and build something here." Head Coach Kyle Gallant said.

A team built around a strong community.

"It's a great community and football's what builds your community." Senior quarterback, Garrett Trask said.

Being the first team in Hermon history to win a playoff game -- they're learning as they go and sticking together as a team.

"Cause if we're not close then we can't really succeed and then everyone’s going to feel on a different page." Junior runningback, River Mullen, said.

Whether a new or old -- continuing to win this time of year is a lot of work.

"Our hard work is finally paying off it's been two years in the making." Gallant said.

Hard work that won't be worth it if they don't move on.

"Pretty excited right now but we won't be remembered unless we win state." Trask said.

"State championship -- we're here -- might as well go all the way." Mullen added.

The two teams will face off Saturday at 1pm at Hampden Academy.
