HAMPDEN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A man accused of shooting and injuring another man during a confrontation at a Hampden Trailer park Saturday night made his first court appearance on Monday.
53-year-old Roger Penman is charged with Aggravated Assault and Criminal Threatening with a dangerous weapon.
According to police he got into a confrontation with a man at Hampden Trailer park around 7:00 pm Saturday and pulled out a gun and fired a shot near the man into a nearby trailer.
A man inside the trailer who was not involved in the confrontation was shot and wounded in the leg.
Residents of the trailer park say it was a frightening ordeal.
"We didn't even want to go near the windows because cops were...like I said it was a real live show," explained Melissa LePage, who lives two homes away from where the shooting took place. She said the shooting definitely makes her nervous and that she and her 8 year old son left for a few days to get away from it all.
Penman did not enter a plea. He is being held on $7,500 cash bail at the Penobscot County Jail.
Penman does have an aggravated assault conviction in Maine in 2004 and a manslaughter conviction in 1988 in Utah. Because he is a convicted felon he could face additional firearms charges.
