From kids to seniors, we asked: what's the best age to live?

Maybe you think about it a lot. You reminisce about a period in your life that meant a lot to you, or you wish you could fast forward to an age when you believe the pieces of your life will fall into place.

Perhaps you're happy with where you are in life right now. Bottom line, the answer to the following question depends on who you are, and how old you are.

What is the ideal age in life?

Laura Carstensen, director of the Stanford Center on Longevity told The Wall Street Journal the perfect age for some is when our opportunities are greatest. For others, it's when life satisfaction is greatest. Others say it's when they feel best physically or have the most friends, which is in their 20s or 30s.

At the Woodlands Senior Living facility in Waterville, Janet Blair, 83, said her 50s was her most ideal.

"You've already gone through raising children, your obligations are less and less, and you're living your life the way you want to live it at this point. And luckily, you're healthy."

Conversely, Harold Joseph, 97, said being 21 was his ideal because he enjoyed being in the service. He also really liked beer.

Elementary kids at Small Elementary School in South Portland were surprisingly split. Sage Taylor, 10, said she really enjoys where she's currently at in life.

"Maybe even a bit younger," she said, "because I really like to imagine and express my feelings lively."

Piper Rutherford Baker, 8, said she really looks forward to an age where she "can get [her] ears pierced and wear acrylics."

Then there's 11-year-old Michael Yarlott, who enjoys being at an age where there's a sense of responsibility in being good role models for younger kids.

So, is there an age that is truly better than the rest?

Carstensen told the Wall Street Journal there isn't.

“There are too many variables,” she said.
