Four people injured in crash on Route 201 in Bowdoin

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office said the cause of the crash appears to be weather related and happened during a heavy snow squall.

BOWDOIN, Maine — The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash on Route 201 in Bowdoin on Saturday that sent four people to the hospital.

At approximately 4:08 p.m., multiple agencies responded to a crash on Route 201 near the intersection of Doughty Road, according to a news release from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office.

An initial investigation revealed a 2011 Jeep operated by 20-year-old Robyn Creighton of Bowdoin was headed south on Route 201 when it lost control during a heavy snow squall, the sheriff's office said. The Jeep reportedly crossed the center line and struck a 2023 GMC driven by 87-year-old Michael Fitzmaurice of Bowdoin headed in the opposite direction.

Creighton and a 17-year-old passenger who was in the front seat of the Jeep were brought to Central Maine Medical Center in Augusta and are in "stable condition."

Michael Fitzmaurice and his wife, 85-year-old Harriet Fitzmaurice who was a passenger in the GMC vehicle, were brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland and are in "critical condition," the sheriff's office said.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office is investigating and reconstructing the crash, with the assistance of the Brunswick Police Department.

The cause of the crash appears to be weather related, the release stated.

Sagadahoc County deputies, Topsham and Richmond Police, Bowdoin Fire, Bowdoinham Fire, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, and Richmond EMS, and Lisbon EMS responded to the crash.
