OLD TOWN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A couple from Old Town, and a couple from Connecticut are in jail tonight facing a number of drug charges, after Old Town Police seized hundreds of packets of heroin and cocaine following a probation check Friday.
Old Town Police went to the 465 Brunswick Street home of Wendy Smith and Peter Garland for that probation check and found two other people there, 26 year old Paul Comer and 20 year old Brittany Simmons.
Police say they also found more than 300 individual packets of heroin and 24 grams of cocaine.
Prosecutors believe that Comer and Simmons are out of state dealers who were using the Old Town home as a base of operation. They are facing drug trafficking charges.
Comer was ordered held on $100 thousand dollars cash bail Simmons was ordered held on $40 thousand dollars cash bail.
Comer does have a record in Connecticut that involves gun charges which is why prosecutors say his bail was high.
"It was a big factor in bail because the other person with similar conditions and no history got 40 thousand dollars," explained Assistant District Attorney Brendan O'Brien. "The fact is neither one of them are likely going anywhere but the fact is it played a huge part. Especially since he had some fairly recent probation issues as well."
The Old Town couple, Smith and Garland are facing drug possession charges. Smith is being held without bail due to a violation of bail conditions charge. Garland did not appear before a judge Monday.
