Former Tremont pastor part of child pornography investigation

A former Tremont pastor is being investigated for possessing and distributing child pornography. 

ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A former pastor at a church in Tremont is being investigated for possessing and distributing child pornography.

According to police documents, at least one of the images investigators believe he had showed a young child engaged in a sex act.

Pastor Wayne Buchanan is no longer affiliated with the Tremont Congregational Church. Police have seized several electronic items from his home and are investigating him.

According to court documents, on December 27th of last year, a state police computer crimes detective discovered an IP address located near Bar Harbor was accessing a file sharing site that can be used to view child pornography.

Two days later that same IP address was traced to Buchanan's home in Southwest Harbor.

On January 6th of this year, detectives went to Buchanan's home and seized property they say could contain more illegal material.

That included four thumb drives, two iPads, a laptop and a memory card.The next day, January 7th, Buchanan resigned his position as pastor of the church.

NEWS CENTER contacted the bishop's office that oversaw Buchanan last month.

It confirmed his resignation and said he is no longer a pastor in that branch of the Anglican Church. Buchanan has not been charged with a crime at this point.
