MACHIAS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A former Washington County Sheriff pleaded not guilty to a host of misdemeanor criminal charges.
Neither Donnie Smith nor his attorney appeared in court Tuesday on the charges. Instead his attorney, Donald Brown, filed an appearance letter on Smith's behalf. In that letter, Smith pleaded not guilty to charges including harassment by telephone or electronic communication device, driving to endanger and reckless conduct.
Smith also requested a jury trial through his attorney. A date for that trial was scheduled for April 21.
