LEWISTON, Maine — At two-years-eight-months-old, Oriole still has a lot of playfulness in him. He likes enrichment and exercise, but he also enjoys some quiet downtime.
Officials with the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society (GAHS) say because he can get overstimulated, it's best he find a home with older children or at least a family that can understand the importance of giving him space when he needs it.
A cat tree or perches are good recommendations for a cat like Oriole, who likes his alone time. This cat does have a sweet side that he'll happily show you on his terms, but he won't give you much warning for when he's done with your attention.
Katie Lisnik is with GAHS and brought Oriole into our studio in a cat carrier stroller, which he absolutely loved. He was the most confident and comfortable animal we've had in our studio, but likely because he had his own space to observe from.
Lisnik said Oriole would thrive with a true "cat lover" who understands they give love on their terms. She thinks he would also do well with being taken along on adventures in his carrier; hikes, trips to the pet store, he's done it all and seems to enjoy it.
It's best if you have a home where he can be an only pet or one with a cat that doesn't mind that Oriole likes to be the alpha. Any potential adopters would want to sit with Oriole first and let him get to know you a little bit to decide if it's the right fit.

Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is located at 55 Strawberry Avenue in Lewiston. Their hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
