THOMASTON, Maine — At about 40 pounds, Luna is a hound-mix looking for her forever home. You'll find her at Pope Memorial Humane Society in Thomaston.
This sweet girl is seven years old, which means she comes trained in basic commands and has a little life experience under her belt. Her previous owner had to take a job somewhere else and move to a place that didn't allow dogs, so PMHS is grateful they felt comfortable enough to bring her to a shelter to find a new home.
Luna does have some dietary sensitivities, which you can talk to the shelter about if you're interested in her. She got into some treats that didn't agree with her and on Nov. 13 had to have surgery to remove a blockage in her belly.
That said, she's at the tail end of her recovery, but it will likely still be a few days before she's ready to go home with someone. You should fill out an application online or call PMHS to get on a list, or at least meet her and see if she's a good fit.
If you're looking for a pup who is great with kids, this is your girl, Luna also loves rides in the car.
To learn more about Luna, reach out to Pope Memorial Humane Society. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except for the third Wednesday of each month), and is located at 25 Buttermilk Lane in Thomaston.
You can support the shelter by visiting its 44th Annual Festival of Lights Craft Show on Nov. 30 at the Rockland Elks Lodge from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
And starting Dec. 2, you can stop by PMHS and select a tag, or a few, from the Pet Angel Tree. Each tag has a wish list item for pets who need food, toys, etc. If you can't make it to PMHS, you can email kasey@popehumane.org and she will send you a tag or two from the tree.
