Fatal Topsham car accident on Route 196

Warren woman pronounced dead on-scene of accident in Topsham

TOPSHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- At about 3:45 p.m., on Wednesday, local authorities responded to reports involving multiple vehicle car accidents.

According to the Topsham Police Department, the string of accidents occurred after a 2002 GMC Envoy, that was being driven by Justin R. Cyr, 32, of Lewiston, crossed the center line while driving westbound on Route 196 near West Merrill Rd. Cyr side-swiped a tractor-trailer truck being driven by Dana L. Moore, 55, of Freeport, for Ray Labbe and Sons of Brunswick.

The SUV being driven by Cyr continued traveling on the eastbound side of Route 196 and led to a head-on collision into a Honda Civic being driven by Barbara Brusila, 61, of Warren. The passenger, Jean Brusila, 90, also of Warren, was pronounced dead by responders on-scene.

Cyr was transported to Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick. Barbara Brusila was transported to Maine Medical Center. Both of the hospitalized survivors have non-life threatening injuries

The scene is being reconstructed, the investigation is ongoing.
