LEBANON, Maine — A two-vehicle crash in Lebanon is under investigation after one driver was killed Friday night.

York County sheriff's deputies were called to the area of Long Swamp Road and Lord Road for a serious, two-vehicle crash around 6 p.m., according to a news release from the York County Sheriff's Office

An initial investigation revealed 39-year-old Daniel Dempsey of Lebanon was driving a 2021 Mazda A6 southbound on Long Swamp Road when the vehicle crossed into the other lane, striking a 2021 Dodge 1500 driven by 22-year-old William Long of South Berwick head-on.

Dempsey was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger 44-year-old Christina Gagnon of Berwick suffered serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening, and she was brought to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, the sheriff's office said.

Long and his passenger 20-year-old Jenna Dixon of Berwick reportedly suffered minor injuries and were brought to Wentworth Douglas Hospital.

"Alcohol, speed, and reckless driving are believed to be contributing factors in the crash," according to the sheriff's office.

Both vehicles appeared to be totaled and were towed from the scene, the release stated. The York Police Department is working to reconstruct the crash.
