STANDISH, Maine — A fatal crash that happened in Standish Saturday night is under investigation.

Cumberland County sheriff's deputies and Standish first responders were called to the area of Richville Road near Johnson Road for a single-vehicle crash just before 10 p.m., according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office

An initial investigation revealed 53-year-old Christopher Twigg of Sebago was driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra when he lost control of the vehicle, hitting a Central Maine Power utility pole and several trees before coming to a stop in a ditch, the sheriff's office said.

The truck was extensively damaged and Twigg was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was shut down for several hours while the crash was reconstructed, the sheriff's office said. CMP responded to the area to repair the utility pole and restore power.

Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

The investigation is ongoing.
