Sheriff's office identifies man who died in Carmel crash

Penobscot County deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Fuller Road in Carmel Saturday morning.

A man who died in a single-vehicle crash in Carmel over the weekend has been identified.

Just after 10 a.m. Saturday, Penobscot County deputies responded to a fatal crash on Fuller Road, where the 50-year-old driver was reported unresponsive, according to a news release from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office. 

The sheriff's office said a vehicle left the roadway and crashed into several trees. Speed may have been a factor in the crash. 

The 50-year-old driver of the vehicle was determined deceased upon deputies' arrival. On Wednesday, the sheriff's office identified the man as Johnboy Mayhew of Carmel. 

An investigation is ongoing.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division and Accident Reconstruction Team, Carmel Fire Department, Hermon Fire Department, and Penobscot County Mental Health Liaison responded.
