KENNEBUNK, Maine — An investigation is underway into a fatal crash Thursday in Kennebunk.
At about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, emergency crews responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed head-on into a tree in the area of the Brown and Swan Street intersection in Kennebunk.
When crews arrived at the scene, it was confirmed the crash involved a pickup truck, the Kennebunk Police Department said in a release.
According to the release, the driver, identified as 45-year-old Freeman Hatch of Sanford, was discovered unresponsive inside the truck.
Crews attempted lifesaving measures on the scene, according to police. Hatch was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Hatch had been traveling north on Brown Street when he left the roadway, crossed over Swan Street, and came to a stop against a tree.
"Preliminary investigative reports indicate Hatch may have suffered a medical event while operating the vehicle, but the cause has yet to be determined," the release stated.
Brown and Swan Streets were closed for some time as a result of the crash, police said.
Kennebunk police said the crash remains under investigation with assistance from an accident reconstruction specialist with the York Police Department.
