Fatal crash has closed Route 1 near Wiscasset and Woolwich town line

UPDATE 5/13 5:30p – The Wiscasset Police Department has released the name of the person who was killed in a head-on collision crash on Route 1 Friday.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows a vehicle operating northbound crossed the center line and struck a car driven by Henry Barstow of Bristol. His passenger, Alice Barstow, also of Bristol, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identification of the driver whose car crossed the center line is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The operators of both vehicles were transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland and their conditions are still not known at this time.

WISCASSET, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Lincoln County Sheriff's Department tells NEWS CENTER one person has been killed in a head-on collision on Route 1 near the Wiscasset and Woolwich town line.

According to deputies on scene, two people have been transported to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Officials say a crash reconstruction team is on the way to the scene. They expect Route 1 to be closed for several hours.
