LIMERICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police in Limerick are investigating a fatal car crash that happened Monday morning around 7:30 on Burnham road.

Officials say 20 year-old Caleb Washburn of Limerick lost control of his car and hit a utility pole, rolled over and both himself and his passenger, 19 year-old Austyn Pfeiffer were thrown from the car.

Pfeiffer was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say Washburn was taken to Maine Medical Center with shoulder and leg injuries.

The utility pole broke in half and live wires fell across the road. Burnham Road was closed to traffic for three hours while Cental Maine Power workers removed the wires and replaced the pole.

The crash is being reconstructed however officials believe speed was a factor. They also say neither the driver or the passenger were wearing seatbelts.
