WILTON, Maine — A Farmington man has died following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Wilton.

Shortly before 6:45 a.m., police and emergency personnel responded to a report of a crash on Route 2 East in Wilton, the Wilton Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Police said a maroon Jeep Liberty went off the right side of the westbound lane and onto the lawn of the New Life Pentecostal Church. The vehicle then continued into the woods and came to a stop after striking a tree.

The sole occupant and driver of the vehicle, identified as 64-year-old Ernest Dunham of Farmington, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

No other vehicles or people were involved.

Police said preliminary findings suggest the crash likely occurred due to a medical event experienced by Dunham.

The crash remains under investigation.
