LISBON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The driver in a car crash in Lisbon is being treated for serious head injuries.

Police said speed and alcohol played a role in the crash late Saturday night at the intersection of Ridge Road and Gould Road. The 2007 Honda Element left the road and crashed into a stand of trees.

Police said 43-year-old Erica McIver of Bowdoin managed to free herself from the wreck and crawl back to the road for help.

As a passenger, police said McIver had been wearing a seatbelt while the driver was not. Police identified him as 52-year-old Frederick Field of Bowdoin. Emergency crews had to pull him out of the vehicle.

Although a Life Flight helicopter was called in, Field was ultimately taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center. Police said he is being treated for head injuries and is listed in critical condition.
