DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- A small town is in mourning. They lost one of their own too soon.17 year old Dacano Arno died Monday while swimming in the Sebec river with his friends.
"This is a very small community, and people really rally around," said Tim Smith, Assistant Head of School at Foxcroft Academy."There wasn't a person this didn't affect. Everybody knew him, from freshman, to seniors, to athletes to non-athletes. He was a very well know student and very well liked."
Dacano's positive attitude and spirit of giving were felt outside the school as well. He spent hours volunteering at the Center Theater in downtown Dover-Foxcroft, where employees loved his eager spirit and reliability.
"Dacano was always willing to come volunteer whenever we needed help, especially with the movies," said Molly Derrig,Operations Managerat the Center Theater."He would come help sell tickets and make popcorn and sell concessions and things like that."
Those who knew him say Dacano's willingness to give of himself was just in his nature.
"He never did those things for applause or accolades, he just did it because he wanted to do it," said Smith.
And the loss of such a helpful and caring teenager has been felt all throughout the Dover-Foxcroft community and beyond. Two vigils were held yesterday my Dacano's friends; one in Guilford and one near the river by Dacano's home inDover-Foxcroft.Residents said that kind of support will continue to come from the community, and that community members willdo whatever they can to help the Arno family through their time of need.
