KENNEBUNKPORT (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Locals have been flocking to Walker’s Point in Kennebunkport since the announcement of the former First Lady Barbara Bush's passing. It’s the site of the Bush family summer home. Locals have called Mrs. Bush a summer neighbor for years.
It's not the only place where people seem to be turning out. Many people are keeping the wait staff busy at the same restaurants in Dock Square where Mrs. Bush used to dine.
Usually this time of year marks the last few weeks of calm in this area until the busy summer season commences.
“The past couple days have been very busy.”
Shelby Osgood is a waitress at Alison’s where the amount of reservations and people coming in to eat mid-week has been unusually high for this time of year.
“I think it has to do with the passing of Mrs. Bush. She left us with a great legacy we’re very happy to have had her as a resident here in Kennebunkport.”
The staff at Alison’s say they will miss seeing Mrs. Bush during the Memorial Day Parade, as she sat outside their restaurant along the parade route for many years.
