BOWDOINHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Customers are coming together to save a country store in Bowdoinham.

Bowdoinham Country Store owner David Skelton said the business has been struggling for a few years. Between equipment breaking down and two bad smelt fishing seasons, it was becoming increasingly difficult to make ends meet.

Skelton took to Facebook to apologize to customers for making the mistake of selling alcohol to a minor. He stated in the post that the fines might be the final nail in the coffin for the store. But a customer stepped in and started a fundraising campaign to save the store. Skelton said he's humbled by the generosity.

to see how much the community does support the store gives me the energy to want to fight is long as I can

So far, the online fundraising campaign has raised nearly $2,500.
