Crash in Waterboro knocks out power to more than 200 Central Maine Power customers

The driver involved in the crash was not injured, according to York County Sheriff William King.

WATERBORO, Maine — Around 200 people were left without power after a pickup truck crashed into a utility pole in Waterboro early Sunday morning. 

At approximately 3:30 a.m., York County Sheriff's Office deputies and Waterboro Fire Rescue were called to the area of 1185 Middle Rd. for a single-vehicle crash into a utility pole, York County Sheriff William King told NEWS CENTER Maine. 

An initial investigation found a 58-year-old Waterboro man, the sole vehicle occupant, was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck on Middle Road when he lost control, King said. The vehicle reportedly slid off the road and into the ditch, striking a utility pole. 

The driver was not injured in the crash, King said. 

Central Maine Power crews worked to restore power after more than 200 customers in the area were left in the dark. 

The Middle Road was left impassible due to the crash and traffic was diverted, according to a Facebook post from the York County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff King told NEWS CENTER Maine Middle Road reopened around 10 a.m.
