BANGOR, Maine — Two men from New York were found guilty Monday of conspiring to commit robbery in connection with a violent home invasion in Rangeley in 2016.
The three-day trial was held in the U.S. District Court in Bangor, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine.
In July 2016, 53-year-old Andre Muller, 43-year-old Robert Holland, and three other men planned to steal controlled substances from a Rangeley home, according to evidence presented during the trial. Muller reportedly traveled with two other co-conspirators from New York to a property just outside of Rangeley on July 26. The three men met up with Holland and one other co-conspirator during this time and planned the robbery, according to the release.
Two days later, two of the co-conspirators reportedly went into the Rangeley home with knives and the intention to take controlled substances. One of the co-conspirators was shot and killed by the intended target of the robbery, the release said.
"Muller and Holland had previously been convicted following a five-day jury trial that concluded August 10, 2022. Judge Torresen granted a motion for a new trial, however, based on evidence of juror prejudgment," according to the release.
Muller and Holland now face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing is expected after presentence investigation reports are completed by the U.S. Probation Office.
Hector Munoz, 56, a third person in this case, has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing, according to the release.
"The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Maine State Police; the Rangeley Police Department; the U.S. Border Patrol; and the Carrabassett Valley Police Department investigated the case, with assistance provided by the Maine Office of the Attorney General," the release stated.
