WELLS, Maine — A Connecticut man was arrested early Saturday morning after reportedly driving under the influence on the wrong side of Interstate 95.
Maine State Police Troop G received reports about a wrong-way driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday on I-95 near mile marker 16 in Wells, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
Troopers and local law enforcement responded to the area immediately and were able to locate the vehicle, a white Chevrolet Equinox, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes near mile marker 10.
They were able to successfully stop the vehicle near mile marker six in York, according to the release.
Moss said before police located the vehicle, a passing motorist had crashed near mile marker 11 while attempting to avoid the wrong-way driver. No one was injured.
The wrong-way driver, identified as 58-year-old Timothy Willis of Glastonbury, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.
The incident remains under investigation.
