PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- About 100 high school students at Cheverus are giving back this Thanksgiving week in a big way.
They spent the day packing 750-plus turkeys into Thanksgiving baskets that they then deliver out in Greater Portland. The Turkey Drive has been a project of the school's Key Club for decades.
The Key Club has been collecting donations for weeks now, and making sure each basket has canned goods ready to go. Tuesday, the turkeys and cold milk were added for students to make their deliveries.
Key Club President Julia Lambert said, "It's not something you ever see that often. It's pretty cool to see people, some of them that don't know each other that well, working together put this on. That's awesome"
The students work with more than 25 community based agencies to make sure families get the food they need for a holiday feast.
