CASCO, Maine — A man from Casco has died after his vehicle crashed into the woods Saturday night.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to Poland Spring Road for a single-vehicle crash that happened around 4:15 p.m., according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

An initial investigation revealed 38-year-old Robert Stitham of Casco was driving his 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche when he lost control around a curve, narrowly missed another driver, and crashed into the woods, the sheriff's office said.

Stitham was fatally injured in the crash. The sheriff's office said he was wearing his seat belt.

Speed and alcohol are considered possible contributing factors in the crash.

Naples and Casco Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
