Homeowner believed to be victim in fatal Penobscot County house fire

The fire destroyed a home on Main Road in Carroll Plantation, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a release.

PENOBSCOT COUNTY, Maine — Officials believe the victim in a fatal house fire in Penobscot County on Monday is the homeowner.

The Springfield Fire Department and Lincoln Ambulance Service responded to a small home at 1821 Main Rd. in Carroll Plantation around 5:40 a.m. Monday, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release Tuesday.

Investigators with the state fire marshal's office also responded to the scene and located human remains. The remains are believed to be Jeffrey Macy, 57, who owned the home, according to Moss.

The remains were taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, where positive identification will be made, Moss said.

The fire destroyed the home, the release stated.

The investigation remains ongoing.
