ISLAND FALLS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A car crashed into a horse drawn buggy Monday in Island Falls, killing the horse and sending four children to the hospital.
Stephen Porter from Sherman was driving west bound on U.S. Highway 2 near a local Amish community. Four siblings, ages 9,8,7, and 5 were in a horse drawn buggy and moving wood on their father, Daniel Miller's, property. The children did not check for traffic when they emerged from a thick tree line, pulling in front of Porter. Porter struck the horse and buggy, sending the buggy into the air and ejecting the children. The collision killed the horse and Island Falls ambulance transported the children to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
