BUCKSPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The new owner of the closed down Bucksport mill, AIM Development, plans to tour the mill today with its bonding agency to determine how to move forward with a new contractor.

This comes after Illinois-based company DeNovo Constructors abruptly halted demolition late last week due to financial issues.

Bucksport Town Manager Susan Lessard said contractors had been calling her office complaining that DeNovo Constructors had stopped paying them.

Verso paper announced the closure of the mill in October 2014, leaving about 500 people without jobs.
It was then sold to AIM - a scrap metal company - in December 2014.

AIM Development was already a familiar name in Bucksport. The company is responsible for dismantling two other paper mills---one in Wisconsin, another a sister paper mill of Verso in Minnesota.

Demolition began on the Bucksport mill in December 2015 before it was abruptly halted last week.
