FALMOUTH, Maine — First responders are investigating after a body was recovered from the Presumpscot River in Falmouth Thursday evening.
According to Falmouth dispatchers, Falmouth police and fire crews responded to the scene located on the Gray Road bridge around 6:30 p.m.
A boat was reportedly deployed, but was not needed, dispatchers said.
According to Falmouth Police Chief John Kilbride, a person was fishing in the river off Gray Road when they noticed a body caught in a small inlet.
The body was reportedly "badly decomposed and [had] been there for quite some time," Kilbride said, noting an inability to make determinations regarding the body due to decomposition.
Officials will be working with the medical examiner's office over the next 24 hours to identify the body and cause for being in the river.
