BIDDEFORD, Maine — A Saco man is facing charges in connection with a house fire in Biddeford early Sunday morning.
Several police and fire departments responded early Sunday morning to a report about a structure fire at 34 Proctor Road in Biddeford, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
The state fire marshal's office also responded after it was requested to investigate, Moss said. Investigators with its office partnered with Biddeford fire and police departments to identify 42-year-old Richard Olin of Saco as the suspect responsible for the fire, according to the release.
Olin was located at the scene and detained by officers, Moss said. He was then arrested and charged with one count of arson and one count of burglary by investigators with the state fire marshal's office.
At the time of the fire, residents were inside the home but were able to make it out safely with no injuries, the release stated. Moss said Olin did not live at the address, but he was "familiar" with the residents.
The home was damaged, and the garage was destroyed in the fire.
Olin is being held without bail at the York County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance Monday.
"Additional charges may be brought against Olin pending further investigation," the release said.
Fire departments from Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Goodwins-Mills, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel, and Scarborough assisted at the scene.
